This post is not sponsored by Chacos. I don’t even like most of their shoes - just this pair.
For $50 (there was a sale), my dream sandals carried me for seven months across 19 countries. Traditionally, Chacos are colorful and hippy-esque (not my aesthetic). While shopping for supplies for this adventure, however, I was surprised to find a pair of Chacos hiking sandals that were made of strappy black leather rather than colorful tribal prints. I was so pleased! They looked much more refined than most hiking sandals and didn’t look like a classic Chaco whatsoever - but still provided the same support.
These shoes were not appropriate for walking on the Camino because any sandals must be worn with socks for such a long distance - the toe strap in the design prevented wearing socks. At the end of the day, however, these shoes were supportive for walking around the city and giving your feet a break from the hiking shoes.
These sandals took up very little space in my bag, carried me up the mountains of Bulgaria, and still looked cute for the clubs in Serbia. Importantly, their hiking design provided my feet real support and prevented the sore feet my colleagues in Croatia suffered from.
When the fastening strap started to fray after six months of heavy wear, I had the strap repaired for two dollars in central Vietnam so I would be able to continue wearing them. That’s a big deal for backpacker who lets most of her things go without a second thought!
I could not recommend these black leather Chacos enough - I plan to by a replacement pair right when I get home.
Happy travels!
