Kuang Si Waterfalls
For about 35k kip, most hostels offer round trip taxis to the falls as ea as 9am. Taxis will wait 3 hours, tuk tuks will only wait 1 hour for the same price, so finding a taxi service is worth it.
Waterfall admission is 20k, but you definitely could have walked past the ticket collector without paying and he wouldn’t have cared. My taxi driver collected the entrance money, and despite not having a ticket I just walked right in.
The waterfall was absolutely gorgeous. The hike to the waterfall is easy, and the hike to the top of the waterfall for a view was moderatley difficult. Bring your swimsuit - the water was nice in early January!
Sunset on Mountain
Climbing Mt. Phou Si is easy, just a long flight of stairs to the top. From the temple at the peak you can enjoy a beautiful view of the city.
Unfortunately clouds blocked the sunset that I heard so much about, but it was an enjoyable evening at the top all the same.
Night Market for Dinner
The food street in the night market quickly became my favorite place to eat. Crammed into an alley off of the main thoroughfare are a tight row of restaurants, including a 15,000 Kip ($2) buffet, fresh dumplings, and plenty of meat on sticks.
Drinks at Utopia Bar
This bar is the place to be! This hippy-vibe location offers yoga in the mornings, beanbags and a peaceful view of the river all day, and bright lights and cheap beer at night.
Bowling
All bars close at 11:30pm, and technically it’s illegal to be outside in Laos past midnight. The only place still open after bar close is the bowling alley, so everyone piles into tuk tuks to go bowling in the middle of the night. Very fun.
